
Nishat Fatima, Ph.D. (Candidate), Clinical Psychology
Nishat Fatima is a fully licensed Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), as well as with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMPH). Ms. Fatima holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology (University of Dhaka) and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology (University of Vienna). She possesses specialised training and practical experience in psychotherapeutic modalities and evidence-based trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Ms. Fatima’s academic credentials were verified by World Education Services (WES), with her Master’s Degree from the University of Dhaka evaluated as an equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree. In contrast, her Ph.D. from the University of Vienna was assessed as equivalent to a Ph.D. received from a university in Canada. She is an alumnus of the Bridge Training Program for Internationally Trained Mental Health Professionals (BREM – 2020).
Ms. Fatima possesses the following certificates and completed the following training: Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Mental Health and Addictions (Adler Graduate Professional School), Certificate in Solution Focused Brief Therapy – SFBT (The Solution Focused Universe), Certificate in Healing Shame with Self-Compassion (Mission Empowerment – pre-approved training from the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF)), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training – ASIST (Gerstein Crisis Centre), Common Assessment of Need – OCAN (CMHA Toronto), Motivational Interviewing, Emotion Focused Therapy – EFT, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Positive Spaces Initiative Training to Support LGBTQ+ community members (OCASI).
Ms. Fatima was involved in academic research, psychoeducation curriculum formation and development, training, academic programming, supervision, psychotherapy, and project implementation in the capacity of a counsellor, coordinator, and then mental health lead as part of BRAC Institute of Education Development, BRAC University, Centre of Psychosocial Wellbeing in Bangladesh, in collaboration with Radboud University in the Netherlands. As part of her practice, she was directly involved in working with and assisting refugee and catastrophe victim adults, youth, children, expecting mothers, and mothers (postnatal) in individual and group counseling and psychotherapy for over five years.
Ms. Fatima is a versatile mental health professional who possesses extensive experience in providing empathetic, client-centered, trauma-informed psychotherapy treatment, counselling, assessment, case management, and psychoeducation to individuals, couples, youth, children and families, focusing on a variety of issues such as Depression, Anxiety, post-traumatic stress, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship issues, adjustment difficulties, chronic pain and illness, somatoform disorder, phobias, postpartum Depression, sexual and reproductive health, addictions, domestic violence and abuse for over 15 years in English, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu languages as in Canada, and internationally.
